Great entry! I lived in Alaska for a few years and know that all of your info is absolutely correct ( and very well written ). But tell me - are you a transplanted Brit or do the editors add the British spelling throughout the article? Not that it really matters, I just never noticed that before.

No, the sub-editor added the British spellings. I am a resident of Montana. Thus, bears are a part of the landscape.

The British spelling is in accordance with the h2g2 style guide. The idea is that spelling should be consistent for all the Edited Entries. I hope it doesn't detract from the authenticity, there being but few bears to worry about in Britain. I wonder if the same techniques can be used in a confrontation with soccer hooligans.smiley - smiley
