This is a lovely book illustrating one of the great pioneers in western culture of the golden age of the Caliphinate. I wish more Americans would learn about people like this, it might diffuse some of the rampant Islamaphobia around here.

Ha, I know who Ibn Sina is! I'll go check the article. Over here, I don't think we're very Islamophobic ... there's a lot of xenophobia but that is directed mosly against people from other African countries. Did you know one of the very first writings in the Afrikaans (=my) language was a version of the Koran, written in the Arabic script?

Wow, so South Africa is ahead of the pack on that! Very . I am sure that the time Gandhi spent there was extremely influential on his development of peaceful resistance to unfair laws. He learned a lot of lessons of how to speak truth to POWER. And win no less, eventually. I think that all to often young people don't have a clue about process--they want everything to happen immediately.
