Concert Report

Well, it didn't go too badly really. People seemed to enjoy the Brahms, even though I didn't play very well at all. smiley - erm But it was still one of the best school concerts I've been to in a pretty long time, so that's smiley - ok.

I spent yesterday afternoon helping Lizziesmiley - love with her art project - we wandered around Oxford taking photos of fly-posting and graffiti. Quite interesting actually...

I watched Taken yesterday evening. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/taken) Despite the bad press, I think it's actually quite good - certainly more watchable than the other stuff that was on! I'll be watching the next episode next weekend, if I have the opportunity (I think next week's is the last in the series).

Dakota Fanning (who plays Allie, the lead role), is going to be BIG. She is very, very talented...

Blither...

As you can see, I've now fully enbloated my user space and made it full of useless links and information. Hope you like it. smiley - cool

We've got our school chamber concert this evening - I'm playing horn in the Brahms Horn Trio and violin in a Vivaldi string quartet. Which should be nice, because the horn trio's sounding a lot better than it was on Wednesday!

I'm also in the process of updating my website - sometime over the weekend hopefully...

Horn playing, and the rest

Well, I'm playing the Brahms Horn Trio on Friday, in a chamber concert at school... only problem is, I'm still not back in practise since half term... too much work is my excuse. Lame I know. smiley - biggrin

But I've got a horn lesson this evening, and my teacher's not going to be very happy with me... smiley - erm

Our school orchestra's really getting me down. If everyone turned up, we'd probably be out of tune, out of tempo, and generally sound awful, but at least we'd actually have the opportunity to get better. As it is it's a bit hard to have a proper orchestra with ten people. smiley - grr

Same goes for the choir. And we're meant to be performing Carmina Burana in three (two?) weeks time.

Anyway, enough whinging. BTW, you can look at my skiing photos at http://www.confluence.clara.net/tom/album_frames.html (that's my dad's website).

Lies, Damn Lies, and...

...Statistics, naturally. My Stats teacher is really getting me annoyed now. He rushes through topics, and then sets unrealistic amounts of work to prepare in the hope that we'll understand what's going on by the time we get to the end of it. smiley - grr

...fortunately, the work's usually quite easy, just time-consuming and mind-numbingly boring. smiley - yawn

I still haven't been able to get any horn practise done. I'm going shooting now, but maybe when I get back I'll be able to do something.

Before I start on the next Stats exercise... smiley - groan

Software design headaches...

Fun day so far. This morning I couldn't find my Physics textbook smiley - yikes, so I was running around like a headless chicken looking for someone to borrow a copy from in time to do my homework... but I think I've found it now. smiley - erm

I've also been thinking hard about this contact management software. I've now got a name - Java Contact Management System (JCMS) - and a database schema and a GUI design for the client). I'm going to have to code a Open Contact Management Interface (OCMI) client library for the different data sources supported, which could be fun... and once I get round to it, a command-line client, a report generator, and an enterprise server to communicate with clients (via OCMP, a protocol I have yet to design). Initially I'm going to have the clients talking directly to the data source, but hopefully I'll be able to use the enterprise server to make the whole system a lot more scalable. That would have the added advantage of enabling the same client to work with several different OCMI implementations...

Enough blither for one evening.
