Yeah, same here. But my sister's family, they raised two boys and now several grandchildren on very modest means, so they always did this.

My bro-in-law used to shoot a deer once a year and have it butchered properly, too - very cheap way to feed a family, even today. Six dollars for the licence, share and share with the butcher...

is there a number cut off, that a person can shoot in a season ?

There is. I think you only get one deer. I don't know what the limit is on smaller game in season.

You can shoot all the groundhogs you want, anytime except on Sundays. On Sundays the Lord must protect them.

My brother-in-law calls groundhogs 'target practice'. I am glad we live in town. I don't think he's allowed to come over to our house and shoot our backyard bunnies. Otherwise, I would fear for them...

Me, I've never shot anything any more belligerent than a tin can. And do not intend to.

thanks, I too have never shot an animal, sort of tried for grey squirrels years ago (air rifle) but never actually saw any when in a local wood
