On Thursday 9th August 2001 I had lunch at The Swan in Chaddesley Corbett, Worcestershire. I had a pint of Batham's bitter and a ham & tomato roll. This pub has a garden overlooking some very attractive land dotted with mature trees. In the paper there was a piece about a couple who wanted the hymn 'Jerusalem' at their wedding in Cheadle and who had been refused this choice. The musical director and the minister both felt it was 'nationalistic' and inappropriate. I disagree and think they are talking nonsense. On Friday 10th August I went for a long walk along the River Severn in Shropshire. Weather beautiful and not too hot. I started at Arley and walked the western bank to Hampton Loade, saw some large dragonflies, one ot them about 4 inches long. Had lunch at The Unicorn, Guiness and tuna sandwich, then crossed on the ferry and had another pint at The Lion, a beer called Old Hookey which I liked intensely. Then walked back along the eastern bank. This is one of my favourite parts of England. Its 18 years since I first went to The Lion and about 3 years since I last went there,I was really pleased to see it unchanged and apparently doing well.
