English Beer

Mormo

As a dutch student staying in England for approx. 4 months I cannot help but be sceptical about the English beer.

I stepped into a pub and ordered a "lager". I was presented with a glass twice the size of the ones we use in holland and full of a frothless yellow substance the bartender told me was beer.

I cannot understand why in the UK they let their beer die down B4 drinking it. In all the other places I've been (All of europe and the USA) the serve beer with about two fingers of a frothy white substance otherwise known as foam. I expected this to be different beer than what I'm used to in dutch pubs but it was plain dutch "Grolsch" Beer which is served in about 25% of all dutch pubs.

I'm confused...

Enlighten me!
