I had never had an umbrella until I got a freebie one recently which fits into my handbag. Has even been used occasionally, but only when there is no wind an no one nearby. Waterproof clothing I think I've only ever worn when sailing. The street kind are not really waterproof. The most effective is my cycling cape, but it doesn't keep me dry below the knees.
