So, I am just recovering from a really bad cold (or flu), don't know which as I have not been to the doctors. About a month ago I hurt my leg playing silly buggers with my kids in an adventure playground. And about two months ago I had a bit of a depro. And now ... I really want to get out there and start ... doing! I feel incredibly stifled at the moment and the weather doesn't help, either. I'd love to be in Australia (visiting Hermoine1) for a cup of coffee and walk along an Australian beach!

I went to work today, even got dressed up, and when I got there I carried some stuff down the stairs and got so out of breath that I had to sit down and have a breather (sweating like a pig)! Perhaps I'm still not through with this cold!

I gave up about lunch time and took some time off. Went home and put my feet up ... for 10 minutes. Very nice ... made myself a nice of PG and a few of my ever dwindling McVities Digestives, which I brought back from my recent visit to England.

I believe (symbolically) that the first of the month (especially a Monday) is a great place to start afresh, but I didn't manage it ... perhaps tomorrow?

Hi there,

Thanks for asking about me. I'm fine, but have been really busy with various things so apart from quickly dipping in and out of the games forum I haven't been on Hootoo much.

Sorry to hear you've had flu - take it easy and don't try to do too much at once.

Must go now - am off to the pub for a pint (or two )

See you,
Daffodilgold.

I frequently get a cold/flu around the end of summer. Haven't had one yet this year, but then again it's still holding at an uncomfortably muggy 28°-30°C so I'll probably get it in November, at this rate...

Hope you're feeling better again soon. Licorice tea seems to alleviate my chest congestion somewhat. Presumably it's the vapors or something. I'm not into "alternative medicine", but a bit of tea always does a body good.

I'm a great believer in a (large!) warm whiskey and lemon curing most cold related problems!!

Or throats. In fact, you'll be able to buy 'Halstee' from your local 'Apotheke'.

They usually consist of fennel and a few other herbs. Fennel loosens the mucus.

It also helps alleviate the itching that comes with conjunctivitis. I used a weak brew of fennel and hot water (obviously allowed to cool before pouring it into my eye!) in between doses of antibiotic last time I had pinkeye, and it really helped.

There's an apothecary nearmy house that sells a German bath liquid that's great for colds/flu as well. It's made by Tetesept, and it's called Erkaltungs Bad. http://www.tetesept.at/Erkaeltungs_Bad.179.0.html Great stuff!

Yes, you can buy that everywhere here. At least in every pharmacy, but I do think you can get it in drugstores, too.

If I want anything of quality, I have to make a special trip to an import goods or health food store. The drugstores around here all carry cheap, artificial junk. smiley - cross

Of course, I'll also have to second the whiskey-and-lemon solution. A nip of brandy, with lemon, in a cuppa hot tea works wonders. Especially if you rub a little camphor on your feet, put on some woolly socks, and then have a nice lie down.

When i leave work i'll be having a bowl of stew, a hot bath then curling up on the sofa in front of the fire with a hot toddy and a movie

Possibly the best cure for a cold!!
