I'm thinking of starting a Guide Entry about "Where to Find Good Mexican Food in Flagstaff, AZ". There's only one problem... I have yet to find good Mexican food here.

So, what's your definition of "good Mexican food"?

Your sights must be set pretty high. If you think it's hard to find in AZ try it in NC.
Next time you are in UT I have a place I want to take you..

North Carolina? Not sure I'd even try.
In Phoenix and Tucson, and other points in the Southern half of the state, good Mexican Food is not hard to find at all. Up here, though, I have yet to be impressed.
Next time I'm in UT, I'd try any Mexican food place that's got your approval, Marv.

I'd be better at describing bad Mexican food than good...
Bad Mexican food would be something like Garcia's, for instance -- way too Americanized and everything deep fried for no apparent reason. Or like what I used to get in San Francisco which just lacked any real flavor. Last time I tried El Charro (about a month ago) it was pretty bland, as was Salsa Brava back when it used to be on Milton (that was many, many years ago, though).

I quite agree about Garcias. I refuse to go there, even when a bunch of friends will be meeting there for happy hour.
The Salsa Brava on the East side of town is pretty good (somehow better than the one that used to be on the West side of town).
There are a lot of people who really like Kachina. I think it's pretty average, but they do have a really good avacado salsa.
And as far as El Charro...it reminds me of the old school "Mexican food day" in the school cafeteria. You know, the bean & cheese burritos and some sort of strange salsa. They were sort of gross, but I always liked them! I think that's part of the reason I like El Charro. Cheap food that is one of my "comfort foods". (But then, my version of "comfort foods" is pretty strange!)

After my last posting I remembered that I had gotten El Charro (which is south of the Butler, right?) mixed up with Marten's (or whatever it's called) downtown. I haven't tried El Charro in a very long time, either, and will retry it.

Ahhh....Martans! Most of the people that I know who swear by Martan's only eat there when *really* drunk, or really hungover (like the day after sunrise services...)

Nah, I was just feeling hung over yesterday. Not sure I really was, I was just feeling it.
