Things are definitely hottng up between Carol & Jon on the Alt.Jokes .Limericks newsgroup. Meanwhile I've been sufferring writer's block, so I've had to content myself with lurking. Work has got rather silly on the Y2K front. They offered a ridiculously small amount to try to get us to come in. The union asked for a ridiculously high figure, and there seems no prospect (at the moment) of any meeting of minds. Maybe that's not possible between managers & techies. Management imposed a block on all leave from November to February, so I told them there's no chance of getting me to provide any sort of millennium cover unless I'm on leave. I think that confused some of them.

You think THEY will be confused? And what about the poor adventurer that stumbles in here? I can tell you: I'm stomped!
Let's just have a cuppa and talk about it, ok?

A cuppa seems an excellent idea, but the more this gets talked about, the more confused the situation gets. I think I've got my leave sorted now, so I'll probably be on-call, but there are still arguments raging about how much who gets paid for what.

Ah! At long last you have returned
I'd say: if they don't pay double the amount you ask, DON'T do it

Well, I didn't get double what I asked altogether, but it was twice what was originally offered, and for only a quarter of the time originally required. The end result is that the hourly rate *is* double what I asked, and my Christmas Holiday is safe, so I went along with it.

So you get only half of what you wished, and thus no more than one quarter of what I suggested you should agree on? (oh gawd, that makes it sound like just a puny fee, doesn't it? )
Anyway, congratulations!

Yes, but the original was for all four days (from Dec 31st through the two bank holidays on 2nd & 3rd Jan), This is just for one of them, and I didn't even draw new year's day! Personally I'm happy with it.
