Fit? well...

Been in the new place for a couple of weeks now. I think I *am* getting back to a decent level of fitness. I guess I'll really know the next time I have to climb a good long rope - if my legs die before my arms, I'll know I need to do some more work.

It would be better exercise if it wasn't for the traffic. Most of the way up Trinity Road, I have to ride in the 1 foot gap between the stationary cars and kerb, and only really get a chance for a decent blast in the last mile before Wandsworth Bridge. Still, I suppose it's better than being stuck on my backside in a car, it's free, about twice as fast, and I have no problems parking.

I commute to work on bicycle too, but here in NYC. I have about a 5.5 mile trip to the office, over the Pulaski & Queensboro Bridges, then through Central Park, and about a 10-mile trip home (over the Williamsburgh Bridge). I have a 10-speed mixte frame with 2 locks so I can run errands along the way. Riding sure beats the subway; I get to work relaxed, instead of faintly on edge.
The only drawback is that one can get a little moist, especially when running late and riding fast. I've started using the showers here at the office, though, so I'm fresh & clean at the workplace.
Good luck on your riding.
