Potholer

I'm back, slightly fitter, but covered in itchy midge bites, and with an unpleasant cold I caught while away.

Really good week though - most of the people were interesting, the work was fulfilling, if not very scenic (there's not much view when building steps up a forest slope, except for trees and steps). The (self-catering) food was excellent - one of the guys was pretty talented in the kitchen.
Lessons learned : when doing any job involving pounding wooden stakes into the ground, don't pick the only section of path where the soil is only 6" deep over bedrock.

Stepbuilding? Was this with BTCV?

It was BTCV - staying at their nice field centre in Wirksworth. (My Colorado trip was BTCV as well)
I was wondering how you came across my journal entry. It looks like you're a new researcher. If so, welcome to h2g2. Were you looking round randomly, or doing some kind of search?

Sorry, yes, well spotted, a bit new to all this, and don't get much time to get onto this site at the moment. Thanks for the welcome, sorry for the delay in the reply!

Came across you completely randomly, I was just looking at the people on line and noticed your name. I knew a potholer at Durham Uni, so looked through a few of your entries. I am a BTCV leader so recognised the signs...! I work out of Hollybush Farm in Leeds occassionally - one coming up actually, building otter holts in Wakefield. Should be fun.
