Ever notice that bosses and other pointy-haired types just never
seem to appreciate what the grunts come up with?
I'm a coder by profession, and at the moment, I'm working
on writing a large database API in perl. Fun, right? Well,
I managed to write this mongo-powerful abstraction.. ah,
screwit. You don't need to hear that stuff. Yer all probaly
asleep by now anyway. Anyway, I wrote this big way-cool
thingy. And do you know what my boss said in response?
He said "hmm. Neat. Now, can you do this [other task] for me?"
I sympathize with postal workers more and more every bloody day.

Its amazing what bosses DO like, though. I once had to come up with a plan for charging our clients for computer services - in the days of mostly mainframes. $ per CPU minute has some drawbacks - like intentionally writing slow subroutines. Anyway, I pointed out what a competitor was doing, a royalty for the GOOD subroutines - I just typed some stuff from their CATALOG, which we had in our library - and got rave reviews. The six month breakthrough on the fusion reactor - well, you know.
