h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

In a village in a valley,
Is the place where I was born.
Dear old Polesworth near to Tamworth
Where I greeted my first dawn.



I close my eyes to reminisce,
And the mist of memory clears.
I hear the calls of childhood friends
Echoing through the years.



I smile as I think of my old school,
The Nethersole C of E.
Where Mr Knight the headmaster
Taught the three Rs to me.



I remember the old 'dungeon entry',
Where we'd knock on the door and then run.
Fearful in case we'd awakened
The ghost of a long dead nun.



I recall the church of St. Editha,
Benevolent and timeworn.
Playing host to our aspirations
And fetes on the vicarage lawn.



Yes, a multitude of memories,
Come crowding back to me.
Of the Polesworth of my childhood
Where my heart will ever be.

Interesting how you remember the past and how where you are brought up influences you.

Hi Daffodilgold,
Well what a small world we live in despite this being the World Wide Web.
I lived and worked in Tamworth, Polesworth, Warton for over 25 years. I lived in Warton for 11 years. I was a police officer in Warwicks. Police for 7 and policed Polesworth, Warton, Newton Regis,No Mans Heath as well as Atherstone. I started off as a road patrol for a well known breakdown organisation, {hint, NOT yellow vans}, based in Warton and covering M42, M6 Triangle as well as all local towns/villages.

Sadly due to heart disease I no longer work and currently reside in Lichfield. My Motability car is supplied by Polesworth Garage so still see/visit regularly. Have friends there too.

Great to see you in H2, welcome and hope you enjoy it here. It's the best site on the web in my opinion.

Hello st, thanks for the welcome. What a coincidence! Lichfields not a bad place to live - I quite like it around there. I've been living in Cornwall for 8 years now though and I absolutely love it here. I am new to the Internet and am so glad to have found this site. I post mainly on the games forum - more by accident than design really.
