So its like this. I'm 40 years old, divorced and live in a small town in rural British Columbia. The people here are mostly retired. I think to myself, "I think I'll try one of those online personals pages."

I go through the whole signing up process. Its a bit of a lark for me. I get some replies, start conversations. I meet a couple of nice men. I think tickety-boo, this is kind of nice and then...I'm getting told that we have to be friends first. Gee, that never occurred to me. I'm glad that you explained that to me, I guess I'll just pack the wedding dress right away.

I mean, what is the big deal here. I'm fairly attractive, have a nice home, supportive family, a good income. I don't neeeed a man, I just want to hang out a little. Do I come across desperate? I find this whole thing confusing. I mean I know I haven't really dated in 20 years, but jeez, I never had someone say that before. I mean what happened to dating, it not working out and saying " have a nice life, glad we had a good time"?

Anyway, I get a message from this fellow with the "lets just be friends" brush off, I say, "have a nice life" and then he's offended. I only met him once, he never called me and I had to wait around even for e-mails. I don't get the new rules here. I think I'll just hang around bars. Its simpler. Just my rant for the day.

I have no idea what you are talking about, can't say I had made similar experiences here, but perhaps it's just an example for your humour ?

No, I wasn't talking about this site, I was talking about another site that was for strictly dating. No, this site is my mecca, my raison d'etre, its a bunch of people who like stuff and talk about it. This place is great, its the dating sites that I'm having trouble with.

Well, I've decided that my foray into the world of electronic dating was definitely a bust. I have decided to swear off of it for life. I will live simply, tending flowers, meditating, studying the universe and getting really really drunk once a year. That and I have already started my cat collection.
