22.12.2004.

It's here again, birthday anniversary, or should that be adverstity. Everyone congratulates you and they mean it of course, saw the two Grandaughters in Tesco car park with youngest Son and his Wife and was treated to an impromptu 'Happy birthday to you', to my complete embarassment.

Sound grumpy?, disinterested, maybe, but I never made much of my Birthday, it's three days before Christmas and it always seemed to be a non-event even as a kid. Eldest Grandaughter has an even rougher deal, she was born on Boxing day, that's a bit like getting a £10.00 winning line on a scratch card the day after winning the jackpot.

It's tough on family as well of course, they have bigger things on their plate about this time of year.

I have to admit that my attitude has taken a bit of a turn lately and to my eternal shame it must have shown to my lovely family.

From Wife - two C.D.'s, Saxophone music, which I love. I have a beautiful vintage tenor which I try to play.

From eldest Daughter, 2 packs of top quality Kodak photo' printing paper. (she hasn't a clue about computers so there must have been some insider dealing there.smiley - laugh.)

From youngest Son, I thought "it feels like a picture frame, what the hell do I want with a picture frame" - WRONG - a big flat box with reproduction Newspapers, all headline News events, The Sinking of the Titanic, Assassination of J.F.K, The Ascent of Everest, etc, etc, the FULL paper as it was on those days.

From Grandaughters, each a BIG bag of my favourite goodies (Worthers and Rowntrees Pastilles), and a big hug.

I mention eldest and youngest, there was a middle one but every family has it's tragedy don't it.

Won't see the Grandson until Boxing Day and then only in short noisy bursts of sprinting devilment.

Feeling thoroughly ashamed of myself, I'm closing down for the Night.

Hi, I always intended to say hello, but somehow never managed smiley - erm
It's nice to read that you think I'm even worse off than you as far as my birthday is concerned - I'll not object smiley - biggrin, and I never even won the jackpot smiley - laugh
I wish you a very good and healthy new year, when I read your journal I know I can't complain about my health smiley - ok

Hi Bel,

Nice of you to drop by, you're very welcome, thanks for the good wishes they are returned with interest accrued.

As far as health goes, yes, you should complain, you should kick and scream and shout. My generation never did and that was half the problem, when the going rate was carry one, I always carried two, if someone else carried two then I carried three, if you hurt yourself you limped and carried on.

Until this happened to me I didn't realise just how common it was and more to the point just how curable it is if dealt with in time.

I try not to dwell on it and think about all the new Horizons it has given me, I used computers every day at work and thought nothing of it, but not like this.

I meet new people, have interesting and friendly chats (and some not so interesting or friendly). I have always loved music, but now with computer programs I can learn to read and write it. I'm compiling an illustrated book, have learnt all sorts of Digital Photography manipulation, etc, etc, a whole new life. With h2g2 a very important part of it.

BTW, just heard the lotto results, I haven't won anything eithersmiley - wah.

Stay well.

That's how I feel about h2g2, it has given me a whole new world and many new friends smiley - magic, and generally a good time since I joined it smiley - biggrin
I take it that you're older than I am, but our generation still learned not to complain about diseases and not being well, so it's stunning to see our apprentice celebrating one day, and calling in sick the next morning - we have been raised with the knowledge that who can feast, can work smiley - winkeye
I'll leave it at that now, fearing this might belong in your category of 'not so interesting chats' smiley - rofl

Err..sorry Bel, I didn't put that very well did I?.

There have been one or two convo's where I've 'locked horns' with people who quite frankly got so far up my nose with their arrogance that I got the smiley - steam up. That's the sort of thing I meant, not everday gossip, I love to hear about people's opinions, experiences, and interests. Sometimes I can help, quite often I learn, that's what it's all about ain't it?

I was only trying to joke - I'm a failure at that, I'm afraid smiley - winkeye
I know which sort of convo you're talking about, I don't know if you've noticed, I've unsubscribed from the other Limerick thread because of somebody there whose arrogance I can't bear, so I try to avoid threads where she posts smiley - sadface
Btw, would you mind telling me more about the book you're compiling ?

Well that is a long, long story which involves a love of Limerick Rhyme. Many years ago I was given the Penguin book of 1000 limericks and to be quite honest most of them were crude rubbish.

I recently obtained a copy of a 'paint' type program called creature House Expressions 3 from Microsoft. It works on something called vectors which gives a very sophisticated result, especially with the brush stroke mode, with a bit of practice I can make a fair job of my own signature with it.

I resolved to re-create a book of Limericks in their original form, ie, illustrated. Using my own rhyme of course.

I've already asked for views from a publisher and been given a positive response about the verse, just need to work on the graphics.

Don't expect to be a Millionaire but it will be an interesting project.
