I am seventy one today and I have a problem with it. The thing is I do not know how to be seventy one. I know how to be seventeen. That is easy. Have little or no common sense. Do things without thinking about them first. Look at every pretty woman that goes by. Listen to loud music. Eat too much, drink too much and make a fool of yourself at parties. That I can do. Looking at some of my neighbours, being seventy one is. Moaning about 'the youngsters today'(me, I love 'em, especially my grand children). Creeping about the village wearing a flat cap, wooly cardigan and zip half undone,(me I wear mostly black pretty smart gear, pilot sun glasses and quite often a black stetson. I don't sit on the village bench smoking a pipe and maoning about 'The missus' I take my Boss out as much as I can and spend as much time with her as I can. I don't think I do seventy one very well.
Today has been really good. We didn't wake up until half nine. Woken by the phone going. Our son ringing to sing Happy birthday to me over the phone. That was good. Then my Bro. otherwise known as The Olympian rang and wished me well. Good stuff. did a little bit in the garden after breakfast and then saw the young couple from a few doors down out with their children and a remote control car. So had a little play with them.
The Boss took me out to lunch, I had salmon Bernaisse
Then off to the garden centre to get plants for the tubs baskets and boxes. back home to find all the family waiting with s, cards, and ands.
I had an e mail asking me if I could get six of my poems ready for the end of May for an anthology of Cornish poetry which is to be published and I have booked the hall for the boxing club to start in September as the local police have said they will pay for our coaches to be trained. What a very good day.

Ahoy Matey
Why do you have a problem with all that?
Sure some of todays kids are a pain in the whatsit, but when I think back, I wasn't an and got away with murder (well not quite murder). I think the problem with modern kids is not so much what they do but the arrogant way they go about it, stuffing it up everybody's nose.
I like Dire Straits, Queen, and I happen to think that Pulp's Disco 2000 was a masterpiece. Can't bear the sight of Jagger but love the music of the 'Stones', can't do with Beatles, esp. McCartney, George H. and Ringo were ok guys.
Haven't got a Stetson but do wear a genuine Ozzy version (minus corks) in the garden
As far as food and drink go, Winnie Churchill dined on a rich breakfast including Champagne, followed by a Litre of Scotch every day of his adult life and he lived to be 84.
We all have a long way to go to catch this guy.......

Many happy returns, live long and prosper as the pointy eared man said, Im sure you will with an attitude like yours and that's what it's all about.
Best wishes, Quack

Hallo Quack
thanks for your good wishes. I wish we lived nearer. Most of the people around here of my age are really OLD and The Boss and I don't relate to them very well. I am sorry you cant't be doing with the Beatles. I have everything they ever did, also all the Wings lps. Love Queen, never got into Dire Straights.
The kids,The Son and I have been talking to about the boxing club, are as you said, very arrogant; but there is a kind of charm about them as it is obvious that underneath they are lost souls. In our village there is little for them to do except hang around the bus stop drinking cans of cheap lager. They actually seem to be looking forward to the discipline belonging to a boxing club will impose on them, and say they can't wait for it to open. When my boys were young there were scouts and cubs, sea cadets and airforce cadets all in the vilage. All gone these many years!
Take care
Kif

I found out this evening Quack. I thought she had been quiet so wandered around hootoo and found out about her trouble. What a bugger for the poor girl. I have sent her an e mail hoping she might pick it up at her daughters place.
