So there it sat, resting in the black glass ash tray, one unlit cigarette. It had been there for quite some time as was evident from the marks left in the dust each time the cigarette had been picked up, and then put back down again. The book of matches beside it reminded him of their holiday. That’s where it took place. That’s where the damn bet was made. But he wanted his prize. He wanted his pay day. Did he crave that cigarette, hell yes! At times every inch of his body wanted to spark that baby up and suck that sweet smoke right into his lungs. He knew he’d put on weight since this started and that was weight he’d have to lose again before the big day. But hey, she was worth it, every day of agony and torture. She was worth every one.
