Over the past week or so I have been to see three films: Downfall, Kingdom of heaven and the Hitchhikers guide.
Downfall charts the last days of the Third Reich seen from the perspective of Hitler's secretary. Very good film, treats the main characters as people rather than caricatures or monsters. Worth seeing.
Kingdom of Heaven, though there is a story it seems the main thrust of the film is to say that Muslims and Christians worship the same God and that God is to found in a persons humbleness. Good film but only if you want to think what the film is about.
The hitchhikers guide.. Sorry but this was awful, not because, as a film it was bad (it would have been Ok, a poor Ok), but because it failed to respect the source material. It would be interesting to hear/read the justifications of such changes to characters and omissions of dialogue and the introduction of a new story line which never goes anywhere.
It is interesting to see on the BBC's movie website that the majority of people have given the film 1 out of 5. You either love it or hate it.
