The latest HbA1c result that is. Last time (in feb) my HbA1c was 7.7% It has now come down, only to 7.0% though. This is a little disapointing as I had thought it would have come down to a bit lower than that (somewhere around 6.8% I thought). I guess it means that my diabetes hasn't been quite as well controlled as I would like. The current guidelines are for the HbA1c to come in at 6.5% or less, that's roughly an average BG level of 8.6 over a couple of months before the test. That's hard.

Turns out it was actually 7.3% not 7.0% The GP wasn't too worried when I saw him, it's on the way down and we discussed possibly trying a few days of more intensive monitoring. Also the current guidelines are for a higher dose of statin than I'm on so he wanted to ask if it was ok to move to that dose when I next need some more. We did discuss the HbA1c target of 6.5% and both agreed it would be hard to reach that with most regimes of diabetes treatment, unless you had an operation (the current 'cure' is an operation to transplant islet cells into your liver, then you get a different set of drugs to take) or were on a pump.
After the business was done, talk drifted to drinking and astronomy, as you do with your GP...
