Well - they went and chose someone else for the flat. Hey, ho... what can you do I suppose, except congratulate them on their good taste. Had a look at a place today but I think I'm a little late into the mix so I doubt I'll get it. Seemed okay - a bit far out for my liking and the room was a tad small, but at least I tried- and each time I'll learn a bit more about what to do to convince people to let you live with them! smiley - smiley

Went to see David Hellgoff(? dunno if I spelled that correctly) last night - he's the pianist that the movie was about and he's a bit of a strange bunny to say the least - but horrifically talented! So that was culturally stimulating (and it means I can do something terribly tacky now!! I'm trying this diet of cultural followed by tacky - should keep me sane-ish... keep my feet firmly out of either camp.

God - don't have all that much to say today - we watched the Wallabies slaughter the french last night. Actually it was a weird night with plenty of firsts - I saw several English actually cheering for the French, which for those who don't know the English, is like Malcom X cheering at a KKK rally, such is the love between those two countries. We started out French but rapidly changed nationality when it became obvious that France was gonna be stomped. (hey - you have to back the winning side every now and again...) And then, when the Queen came out to hand over the winning trophy, the entire Aussie crowd went ballistic booing her out of it. Which is a little odd, seeing as they just voted to remain in a monarchy (I know - the issues are more complicated than that, but I'm allowed to make sweeping inaccurate statements - it's my journal!)

I'm gonna keep this short purely because its taken me ages to write this (people to chat to and mails to send) and I feel like taking a walk - maybe doing a bit of tanning on the roof of the place I'm staying at the moment (wanna bet it'll start raining when I leave here) That said, I've set myself up with some web space so I'll start taking photos and scanning them in. Spice up these journals a little.

'til then, au reviour.

Hard luck with the house. But just keep it up 'cos we all want somewhere to crash if we head in that direction (only kidding smiley - winkeye , I have no plans...). I was watching the match in Sinnotts, sorry it was Break for the Border (desperate Ozzies, needed somewhere to watch it), unlike my house-mate and you I was on to a winner from the start so Sunday was not too much fun. After the match we made a dash for Sinnotts and the rest becomes one loud blur after that. Not the greatest match ever but at least it wasn't too dirty. Prince Charles was a bit chuffed with the Australian referendum result but I think that he was just being blinkered, he thought that they like him, nice guy, don't get me wrong but I think he missed all the 'complications' that worked in his favour. Then again maybe they really do like him and his mommy but are just not good at showing their feelings? You are there, which do you think is likely?

Well, now that you come to mention it, and I'm not trying to stir anything... the Aussies boo-ed like hell when the Queen came on, so Im not too sure how popular she was... I was chatting to someone about it - they wanted to set up a republic where the politicians would elect the President, which is screwed up in my mind. Goddamnit! We (well - people before us) fought and died for the right of the Irish people to be able to elect ex-Eurovision Song Contest winners to the post of President (with all the frilly bits that come with the job) - would you like it if Bertie decided for you?
But then again - I can understand that it's a huge deal to change to a Republic (all the money, buildings, military - all names/coins/uniforms changed) - and when you end up with exactly what you started with anyway... why bother? Besides the Royal Family will probably self destruct within 10 years at the rate they're going....
Oh - too serious stuff - gonna go and write a rambling journal instead!

Well, the Aussies here took a half day, voted the Queen out and got pissed before they found out that she was still 'in power' (a bit strong a term for someone who doesn't do too much, except put up nasty old men that other people don't like). They weren't exactly gutted, I think they want the right solution, but the gloating is hard to take. As for what our forebears died for, I think that the election that brought in Mary Robinson was the first Presidential election decided by plebiscite as opposed to the 'whose next' approach that had been taken before, please correct me if I am wrong. I wonder how long it will be before there is another referendum? What sort of mourning period do you have to have for a failed coup? (I know it wasn't but I like hyperbole)
