And good luck to the nurses, too. As Kaz Cooke, one of my heroines, says somewhere or other - 'Nurses should be paid approximately their wages squared'.
Incidentally - I have a job interview next Tuesday. Somehow I need to get a chance to prepare for it. Never rains but it pours, etc.

might all be a blessing in disguise

If it's a blessing, it's in a brilliant disguise.
I don't expect much from this interview. It's a job that was advertised with exactly the same selection criteria as the last one I went for - so I just changed the date and sent in the same application. Now I need to find my references, change the dates on them, and send them in again.

I just stepped outside for some fresh cool air, and a roo bounded past, stopped, looked at me for a moment, then bounced off. I'm going to miss this house badly.

At least I slept a bit last night. The fact that I was online again soon after 5am is a minor matter. So tired...

Let us know what's in the listings today, Ivan. And here's hoping there's some interesting places to go inspect

There's not a lot in the listings yet, but this is a handy link to monitor. http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=npr&sr=1000&t=r Set it for ACT/Queanbeyan only, and watch the slim pickings mount up.

It wasn't a problem; I had to set off for w*rk soon after.
I have an ugly half-a-house to look at this afternoon. http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=spr&p=62433 Close to the hospital again, but not next to the cemetery, so it's a step upwards.

Actually that doesn't look too bad.. I think the fencing makes it look worse than it is.. Plus that looks like afternoon sun on it .. somehow that never seems to compliment anything.

Do you w**k in the hospital?
Hmm; yes, it does look a bit boring, but you could no doubt pretty it up with plants & stuff. Half a house, does that mean neighbours right next to you? If so, a lot will depend on what they are like.
My old landlord was a total w**ker, this landlady is fine, though pretty damn slow getting work done, but that's par for the course in France. It's actually a very nice little house, but not especially practical for me 'cos of leg stuff, plus incredibly expensive to heat & no garden. Comparitively cheap though for Centre Ville, usually you would be lucky to get a tiny one bed flat for this price.

I've never had a place with a garden, except when I was a kid and my parent's house had three garden patches out in the back yard.
My present place has a decent sized back yard, and my landlord said I could plant a garden if I wanted one. But it's too much effort at the present.
The house doesn't look that bad, Ivan. I've seen some uglier. I think Terri's right; you could probably spruce it up with some plants, etc.

Terri, I don't w**k in the hospital, but it's comforting to know it's there. The same applies to the cemetery sometimes, depending what mood I'm in.
When I'm looking I'll have to make careful enquiries about the neighbours. I also need to check the amount of storage space, and where the phone socket is. Assuming that's all tolerable, as long as there's enough space for the library I'll try to get it. (Reminder to self: dimensions can be deceiving. Current house looked far too small at first.)

You think pretty clearly under pressure, Ivan. I wish I'd noticed there's only one phone jack in my place before I moved in, and had another installed while the building was still vacant.
Dimensions *can* be deceiving. Maybe they'd let you in with a measuring tape, if you had furnishings you're concerned won't fit where you'd want them?

Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Jan 11, 2006
I wish I had a measuring tape with me. Maybe I should pick one up before I set off. The main thing is that the bokshelves all fit. Some are 4' wide, others 5' - but by a fortunate coincidence my own foot is about a foot long. I can just pace up and down and work it out that way.
And here's another place to look at. 4pm today. http://allhomes.com.au/c/ah?a=spr&p=63477 I must admit, I like the look of this one more, but it all comes down to storage space and so forth.
