So neither of you read Science Fiction, and are not aware of an extract from a classic novel then?

Prof, you know full well I read Sci-Fi, and I have read the phrase before, although just where eludes me, unless it was 1984.
I just thought he deserved one of your more lucid replies.
(No smiley face, 'cos mine dont work, dammit!)

Ok guys, I was just winding you up, and also told a little porky..
In fact I was talking about SF short written 1930 by Miles J. Brewer called The Gostak and the Doshes." Not a great by any standards, but very very clever. Try a search on 'Gostak' and see what the results are!
P. The Gostak Distims the Doshes.
Q. What's a Gostak?
P. That's what distims the Doshes
Q. Whats Distimming?
P. It's what the Gostak does to the Doshes.
Q. Okay, but what are the Doshes?
P. They're what the Gostak Distims................
I have been seeking a copy in desperation for years, original never got returned by a friend, of course, I have forgotten which "friend" it was.

This link now too long. Gentlemen, may I suggest we adjourn to a new forum, called Red Pen, which I will start now?

Sounds good, but before we cast this sheet off into the wind, a question regarding the length and loading time of these threads, about how long does it take for this one to come up? I ask because I happen to be lucky to have a cable internet hookup which they tell me is slicker than &#!7 on a hot day. Basically irrelevent, but alas, the story of my life...

Sometimes, like today, it only takes a minute.
Sometimes, mostly, it can take several minutes
No Fun, if you're paying for the call...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
