CENSORSHIP
Proff Started conversation Aug 9, 1999
Necessary, but only if used fairly and sensibly. And even then with caution. Cars kill many people. Ban cars not guns, as currently more pople are being killed by cars than guns. I miss my hobby of murdering cardboard targets.
Seriousluy concerned.

First off, I was wrong (see Humble Pie). Second off, I disagree, there should be NO censorship. What right has ANYONE to decide what I can and can't see/hear/read, what breed of dog I can own, what hobbies I can follow, what things I can possess, what chemical combinations I can injest?
Like the new law they're pushing through? Now if they yhink you MIGHT commit a crime, they want to lock you up to prevent it, under some fuzzy Mental Health law. And this has come from YOUR chums, buster, not even Maggie tried to get away with this. See the catch 22 in this? If you protest about the law, they can simply get two quacks to say that you're a danger to yourself and/or the Public, and it's Adios Muchachos! Concerned? You've got a right to be...

Point taken, me old Grey buddy.
But I would have no hesitation in censoring the DooDoo droppings from the likes of the NF, etc at a moments notice if I had the chance.
I still miss my AK47..............

How come you have censored yourself off H2G2? I've started to use it, and you've quit! Where are you?

Not so my dear Grey being. I got fed up with scooting around over the last few months sending messages to myself, got bored. These sites only work if we all visit them regularly and drop the odd word of wisdom, or whatever. It works both ways you know.
Censorship, I see nothing wrong with censoring loonies like the IRA, people who hate other people because they support the wrong football team or live in the wrong street. I know that this may well signal the thin end of the wedge to some, but look at the millions murdered because of Stalin, Hitler, the Vietnamese geezer, Idi Amin etc.
They would have not got very far had they been gagged. So I will still stick to selective censorhip, unless I am censored that is...
Are you SETI ing yet?
CENSORSHIP
Grey Area Posted Feb 25, 2000
No. They wont find anything because it is being censored!
Went tp look at the SETI site, but there are loads. Which one do you recommend?

Proff Posted Feb 26, 2000
I find all the input on the subject most interesting, the actual site
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu loads like a dream, and at LAST we have an intersting screensaver that actually does something useful!
Now we just have to wait.........

Grey Area Posted Mar 2, 2000
Sorry, as you know, I don't open my mouth if I've got nothing pertinent to say. I've spent entirely too long tying to download SETI, and have given up. If they can't communicate with me, how do they expect to talk to ETs?
Are you up for the summer Event?

Why do my customers ALWAYS blame the hardware they have just bough when it refuses to work with their computers? Only around 97/98% is ever faulty, but they will then trek to another half dozen stores, try different manufacturers goods, waste £££s on petrol and end up where they started from and STILL it is NOT their computers fault......... I rest my case.

Proff Posted Mar 2, 2000
STOP PRESS!
Just shows what a hard days graft does to your brain! What I meant to say was, only around 2%or less of the hardware is faulty..........
A big Whoopsie here folks

I used to buy electrical goods from Greens, in Debenhams stores. My Walkman didn't work, my CB didn't work, my ZX81 didn't work, and when I took my Spectrum back because half the keyboard was dead, someone I knew was returning some kitchen gizmo.
I asked the bloke behind the counter if they had a large pile of assorted stuff, all with my name on. "Er, no sir. Why do you ask?"
"Because everything I've bought here has been faulty. It's starting to look deliberate!"

Only because I'm paranoid.
I've been up half the night, so I thought I'd come and play for a while. Thanks for the cards! At least it was a nice day.
I thought this place had dulled down, but there is still lunacy to be found, check the links on my homepage. I'm having trouble coming up with anything loopy enough, but some people are inspiring me.
I'm going to go and think up a new posting. (I think my entry on Iain M Banks was accepted! Though they don't seem interested in the Chip Pan Conspiracy Theory.)

Agreed.

I was wrong, I hadn't checked my email on Freeserve. My entry was politely rejected.

Just wanted to comment about gagging Hitler, True, this may have made him less volitile or something but if he or someone like him got into power anyway without free speech how could the people respond?
I tend to view language as a liquid more than a solid; like sap, it changes very slowly but surely, as far as curse words (which I use fairly often) they are exclamitory assistants to whatever point you may be trying to make. Like a hammer, it may be ugly, but its the biggest one in the box.
Or were you refering to content?

See, someone agrees with ME! Told you so, told you so.
So why no proper reply, full of your usual wit and eloquence?
Or were you just pissed?
