Oh no, you'll disappear in a puff of logic! Quick everyone, start chanting: "We do believe in Snaily". Like you have to do for fairies at pantomimes.

Never mind. It probably made you do that because it wanted to come and support Snailrind. If you look at it carefully you'll see that it's really an alien snail which fully spread out under its glassy shell and has eyestalks extended downwards (as befits a space-going creature looking down at the surface of the planet below).

Philosopher Friend told me today that he'd bumped into one of the social workers running that charity. She'd told him that they were all really delighted with me, and that I had been streets ahead of the other applicants ("streets ahead"--those were her words), and they'd loved what I had done in my trial lesson, and they were awfully glad to have met me.
I tell you, the *relief*! You have no idea. I feel *so* much better now. Gothly wasn't in the least surprised by the news. I guess I'm a master of self-delusion. (Which makes at least *two* things I am good at.)

Actually, I've been finding loads of really nice snails in our garden lately. Spiders, too. In fact, all sorts of little crawlies. I may have to give them their own journal entry....

Whereas I haven't been seeing the snails so much since I started acquiring other people's frogs for my pond ...
It's more likely to be that there are nicer wet places to be than inside my watering-can now that the weather has turned very soggy at times. I am seeing a lot more small bitey things and wasps though.

Not on the whole. I try to ward them off with marmite. Plus I'm also quite good at running (or bimbling at any rate) away and generally not being there in the first place. The insects can be a bit annoying when I'm waiting for a frog to deign to get off my hand though.

Let me get this straight. You smear yourself with Marmite and then bimble around your garden in the buff with a camera and handfuls of frogs. Am I right?

Not all at once but, surprisingly (for anyone who thinks it's just a joke), you're not that far off in principle.

Hmm... Are you sure it wouldn't be just that together we'd attract even more attention? Other people might take the view that they wouldn't want to be seen out with me at all.
You shouldn't be so concerned about other people staring at you anyway (apart from at cash-points etc!). It just means their lives are so boring (and their observational skills and imagination so bad) that you're the most interesting thing they've seen. I would hope that, were we ever to be going for a walk together, we'd find many more things to look at and talk about than whether other people were looking at me more than you or vice versa.
