<, saved me from becoming an evangelical Christian was how *touchy-feely* they all were>>
Not all of us, BC! I was brought up in a very 'noli me tangere' family (Scottish, upper middle class) and I get quite uncomfortable with RL hugs (except from family, of course...)

Yeah, pretty much, I assume... My mother was upper class Scots, my father working class Englush, but they were the same re hugs, isn't that odd? I am the same with my sons, which is just the way I can't help being. Sigh...

it is a British thing originally I think
1 of my friends married an Italien from Venice and although Venetians are sterotyped as cold and unemotional by other Italiens she wasn't
I learnt to cope with the hugs and kisses every time we met but it took me a while

I am English and I get told off for being too tactile!
I and those I think need them, especially my family
I only become reserved when something is hurting me

Hiya BC....
Not checked yet, but I would assume your PS is back on now.
If you've written something on hootoo that is against copy right, the best thing to do is either take it out, or say who the poem is by together with a link to a website.....
Oh, btw, mods don't see all the posts made by hootooers anymore. Someone who read your PS and/or journal will have made a complaint and that's how it gets yikesed. (or at least this is how it used to work when I was an ACE, and I don't think it's changed since June/July)

Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Posted Sep 13, 2004
Yup. My McDiarmid got Yikeseded too. Hmm. I wonder what will happen if I post a link to it instead? http://www.johnmullen.org.uk/text/poetry.pdf
The thing about being averse to body contact is that it is only a learned behaviour. As such, it can be unlearned. I used to be just as stiff upper as British person, but these days I can manage physical contact from either sex and various sexualities without flinching. In fact, I find it amusing to watch others shudder. A particularly funny moment was when a work colleague fainted. I rushed in to do the tie-loosening bit. I was aware that the received wisdom is to "reassure the patient by maintaining body contact". My reassuring touch had a similar effect to smelling salts!

B'cat, if Kevin Higgins were to contact the BBC to give you permission to post his stuff here, wouldn't he just be giving you, and not the BBC, copyright? That would make it OK, wouldn't it?

all
I shall remove the poem for the moment, add a link to Kevins website, and see if I can get him to contact the BBC to confirm I have his permission to use his poems.
On the tactile issue I'm heading in 2 directions. I'm less bothered about it with people I knew than I used to be, but more introverted (except here ) as the years go by. At one point my doctor decided I had a social phobia

Removed the poem and my PS has reappeared
Another thing that annoys me is when people I don't know call me mate, butt (Welsh term for mate), boss, my friend etc. Get a lot of it too, working in a call centre
