And a very merry Xmas and happy Hogmanay to you too, Arty. Your festive smileys just reminded me of my recent Round Robin thread. Think I'll resurrect it - maybe you'll join in too? http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F19585?thread=518101 Cheers, Icy

Why thanks B'el,it's all done and looking really
I don't generally bother with it.It has been a while since its last outing.I can't dress the one in the fore-court, as a young male haggis and family have taken residence there. So, in accordance with local by-laws, (as laid down by the Scottish Haggis Preservation Society)I can't interfere with their breeding apparently, as I't would be illegal to disturb their new found habitat in any way! Two frosty mornings in a row I've seen them frolic and scavenge around the garden. So cute.So I've been feeding them bacon scraps and the likes to fatten them up a bit!

Isn't it against the law to interfere with a haggis full stop, Arti!!!

Definitely, that's why they are protected, although recently, about a week ago, I saw some thoughtless people trying to entice them out by stroking and playing with them whilst they are asleep.Althought they seem to enjoy the experience and attention, I don't think it's in the creatures best interests to be annoyed in this fashion during it's early developement. They have been known to visciously bite, even at a tender age!

You really should know better than that Jennypoohs, they never did you no harm! Nasty little varmints when annoyed, they have been known to spit as well!

Well on 24th January, I shall be donning my kilt to go haggis hunting, as any good Scots lass does on that day... and when the great day of the 25th arrives I shall cook it and serve it with tatties and neep... now recite after me..........
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.
Merry Christmas Everyone !

Hi Arty!
A happy Hogmanay to ye! I hope you had a right gude-willie waught (whatever that is).
Some fine words from Burns back there - one of the greatest poets. I was sad to see that he didn't feature in Courtauld's "The Pocket Book of Patriotism" - this year's Xmas bestseller. Considering it was a book of British patriotism, too. It would benefit from some Burns, or Men of Harlech, or a few other non-English pieces. Anyway, here's my favourite:
Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O what a panic's in thy breastie,
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi' bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murd'ring pattle!
Cheers, Icy

Hi B'El,
Come to think of it, does anyone speak like Shakespeare, or Chaucer?
Lat take a cat, and forstre hym wel with milk
And tendre flessh, and make his couche of silk,
And lay hym seen a mous go by the wal,
Anon he weyveth milk and flessh and al,
And every deyntee that is in that hous,
Swich appetit hath he to ete a mous.
So that's English holidays too?

I'll stick to the south of England then - I had no difficulties to understand people there.
Scotland might be a bit too warm anyway, with about 28°C everyday - 14° in the mornings and 14° in the afternoons
