Well, it's been fun talking to people like Loonytunes and Garibaldi, and for a time, my entry on Whisky was on the Busiest Forum list. But I still don't know how to do a lot of stuff. I'm finding this to be very addictive. I shut it down, but then I come back to see if anyones answered my comments. Trying to get some friends to join in, but they have got all stuffy!

Hello, Grey Area. Just popped in to visit your page.I agree with you about H2G2 being addictive,I find myself itching to get back to see if anyone has replied to my latest ramblings. I see your are an Iain M Banks fan, nice one. Got a favourite? The first one Consider Phlebas, is one of the best. It sets up the whole Culture thing as the agressor and then turns it all around in rest of the series. Perspective seems to be a huge part of it. Anyway, hope you don't feel like your being ignored now.

Hi, GiGi! Sorry this reply is so long in coming, I'd stopped looking to see if anyone was speaking. Yes, "Consider Phlebus" is good. Have you read "Excession" yet? The best one, I think. I 've submitted a short entry about IMB to H2G2. There is also "Fate Amenable To Change" poking about, have you met him?
I'm having to restrict myself from using H2G2, as I'm worried about my phone bill!
Thanks for visiting my homepage.

Yes, I have read Excession, it's good. He really has discovered a way of telling very way out stories,in a very casual way. I have seen Fate Amenable to change, but I don't believe we've been introduced.
I have a great deal from BT which allows me to surf the whole weekend for free. Not a bad deal,it costs £11.85 a month and you get every weekend, calls free! It's worth it if you spend alot of time on line, which I have to do for my job.
Anyway nice to speak to you.Ta!Ta!

In June I went to Bournemouth airport for the Jet Heritage open day. Amazing collection of old planes, in absolutely immaculate condition. There is not a speck of oil on the hangar floor, and NO drip trays under the planes. Next flying day is August 8th.
Are you interested in military or civil planes?

Mostly military aircraft, because of the amazing things they are capable of, in terms of manoeuvrability. I love watching the Sukhoi and the Harrier. The Cobra manoeuvre is still, in terms of aerospace engineering, a spectacular achievement. The Harrier is an old favourite, though because it's so graceful, eventhough it's so unwieldy in appearance. However, I'm no expert so all I've said is probably tosh.

Not at all. I too am really only interested in the butch military stuff. The way modern fighters can manuevre is amazing. I once took my father to Greenham Common when the IAT was held there. He did not believe what he was seeing. F.16 going straight up like a rocket, etc. I always had a soft spot for the Lightning, though, and was sad to see it go. Pity the RAF did not keep a couple flying as part of the Memorial Flight. There's still some flying in South Africa.
I once worked for the Army at Middle Wallop, and sometimes went flying. One day I went up with Colonel Ralph, then the display pilot. After we had done what we set out to, we went over the ranges, and he practised some of his routine. (This was in a Lynx, by the way.) It was great fun, up until I was looking at the ground through the OVERHEAD panels of the cockpit! I din't throw up, but I was glad when he quit the aerobatics.
I also flew in Gazelles, and Bell 47G.s
Did you get to Fairford this year?

You are so lucky, I've only ever had the chance to watch from the ground, I wouldn't mind trying out an Apache for a laugh (fat chance!)
I haven't been to Fairford, although, I was meant to go, bit busy on the work front.
I have interviewed a few pilots and an astronaut, that's the closest I've gotten to the inside of jet fighter (Well, apart from looking at one at Farnborough Air Show). Nevermind.
