my summer in a nutshell
eyesflute Started conversation Sep 3, 1999
Classes started on last Tuesday, and that brought the
official end to my summer of 1999. As I said at the
beginning of the summer, this one was a differet summer
from any other ones.
I got to take a flute lesson for the first time in a long,
long time. Yippy. Yes, I absolutely admire my teacher,
and I like her lessons.
Anyhow, I was telling her what happenned this summer, and
I now feel like sharing it here. After all, I'd better
have good excuses for not updating this page. So here is my
summer of 1999 in a nutshell:
I was rather depressed.
The symptoms of depression were very prominet by the middle of
the spring semester, but I've been like that on and off before.
You see, I was one of those really introverted kid.
I would spend many hours staring at my toes when everyone's
playing in the playground. Plus, I had couple traumatic
things happen to me early on that made me...... stay in the
shadow.
I finally went to a psychologist, but that didn't really help
me. After some serious conversations with my good friend,
I dumped my psychologist and found a psychiatrist.
That was in August. It sure took me long enough to realize
that those psychologists were once psychology majors much like
the ones around me who complain that their multiple-choice
exams are so hard.
So here I am, feeling like doing something for once. I've been
taking medication for the last few weeks, and that helps.
It was interesting how I stopped thinking about death and suicide
and other unhappy thoughts after I started taking it.
OK. You've got the idea. I'll stop right here. I was in
the mood for blabbing about my problems, but I'm getting
better. I'm making progress. Hopefully I'll update this page
more often. Hope.

Wow! You sound as cheerful as a hat full of bees!
And speaking from experience, a hat full of bees can be quite a hatful!
No, I'm not this perky usually , but you sound like you could use a smile...
So where is this university and why don't they offer free counseling services??

Oh, do not worry. I'm usually not this bad. I was just in one of those moods.
That, and my school does offer free counseling. I just opted for somewhere else.
I've been doing a lot better since I wrote that. It's good to be back in school.
