Thanks for your concern, guys. It means a lot 
I'm still feeling a bit shaky - I've got a very good memory and remember more of it than EV. Blessing or curse? 
However, I distinctly remember EV's shouted sweary words and me holding my hand up to my mouth, looking at the road and bricking it when we started skidding. How we didn't hit anything at all I do not know!
My heart's still in my mouth when I think about it

Glad to hear that you're okay guys. Those near misses are always a toughie to get out of your system. Had a few on the motorcycle myself with people not seeing me coming, or not caring since they think a car is bigger and therefor safer than a motorcycle.
I have to say that I admit to driving fast when the opportunity allows it, however, I never make any stupid overtakings, as that's just asking for trouble, and not just for you, but anyone around you on the road.
A while ago, before I had my car, I was on the bus on my way back from the gym as this boy racer overtook the bus (safe enough overtake, but he was driving mighty fast), and he sped away into the distance.
About five minutes later, behind a bend in the road, who do we find with half the engine compressed to half it's size along with another car that looked pretty much the same way?
Yep, you guessed it. Mister boy racer had apparently edged out into the wrong wide of the road and smashed into some poor girl coming the other way. Lots of debris all over the road and two wrecked cars blocking the way.. Lots of cars having to stop cause they couldn't get through.
People can't drive in this country.

Yeek! I've only been in one 'crash' (more going offroad and the car going into a ditch) when I was eighteen. Glad you're both okay.

EV, your account, I think, underplays your skill as a driver. For that to happen and for you to be still in one piece MUST be partially down to your driving skill. Well done...
...unless of course Fords reached over and grabbed the wheel and steered out of trouble while you had both of your hands over your eyes.
