...things I like to think about when I've nothing else to... think about. smiley - smiley

* My cat curled up on my lap, using his cute little paw to peck at the keyboard while I'm trying to type something important.

* Re-reading a really good Kurt Vonnegut book for the kajillionth time.

* At Home dry-cleaning systems.

* Meryn Cadell's "The Sweater" song.

* Rainy, cloudy, cold days.

* Sleeping in under a huge pile of blankets.

* Hearing a really good Beatles song on the radio.

* One-liter Coca-Colas.

* Reduced-Fat Oreos (heh heh).

* Christmas commercials on tv two months early.

* George Harrison.

* Old bookstore smells.

* Downloading sound card drivers that actually work.

Each of these deserves it's own, very special smiley face. smiley - smiley

Okay, it's official, I think you're the coolest person ever! What a very happy list!

Would that be Meryn Cadell of "Fu** Me" fame? Don't you just hate astericks?

And at home dry cleaning, I got really darn excited about that, I must admit...

Kate!! smiley - smiley Long time no talk - though we tried last night. B tells me your computer was on crack, so that's ok. smiley - winkeye hee hee!

I tried to look up the, ahem, "F*** Me" song to see if Meryn performed that one, but get a load of this - Try to do a search for her under any music site. She's nowhere to be found!! I mean...geesh. It's like they erased her or something.

Anyway, thanks Kate smiley - smiley I still say you're the coolest no matter what, but hey. We'll call it a tie. smiley - winkeye

Y'know, I'd feel it necessary to step in and try to ajudicate for you two, but all I'd be doing is flipping a coin, I think. No, wait. If I were asked to judge, I'd just go get drunk, then...well, anyway. smiley - winkeye

Amanda -

I haven't actually had a Meryn Cadell CD for ages - one of my college roommates was really into Cadell's work, hence my introduction. I have very faint memories of the Sweater song, but I couldn't remember if it was in fact the same person I was thinking of. It's too bad there's not much available in terms of her stuff, I'd definitely want to get that CD again.

Since they're a bit too un-family friendly to post here without using a heinous amount of shift-8's, I'll see if I can send you some of the lyrics to F*** Me, it was very, very funny in that pre-Alanis angry woman sort of way. smiley - smiley

Another person whose work has vanished off the face of the planet is folk singer Maria Sangiolo - while you can get her newer albums, there's one that has some fantastic work on it, including a song called "Travelling Alone" which she wrote in Newark airport - probably the only good thing ever to come out of Newark smiley - winkeye Because I'm in that kind of indulgent mood, some lyrics from my rusty old memory:

It's easier travelling alone
No one to question where I go
No one to see all my imperfections
Or ask me for affection
...
(and then later)
I don't want to travel alone
I don't sleep so well in a stranger's home
And I can't even use the telephone
To call you, and tell you I love you I miss you
It's no good, this travelling alone

Okay, so folk lyrics are much, much better when accompanied by folk music. But I digress.

Computer was most definitely on crack last night - or at least the IM was. I went with the old standby, the good old fashioned telephone - it was fairly funny at the beginning of the conversation to hear b typing to you and Greg while talking to me smiley - smiley

Oh my!

I hope that link works. Looking at the track listings, it's all coming back to me now! My bad - it wasn't Meryn Cadell with the F*** Me song, it was Maggie Estep. I think I got them confused because I listened to them at the same time in my college life...

But the rest of these Cadell songs definitely sound familiar - particularly I Been Redeemed - I think we used to play that a *lot* smiley - smiley

LOL!!! Yay!! You found a link that works!! I was begining to think that she had requested to have her old stuff removed from music sites - especially after reading this: http://www.shmooze.net/pwcasual/zines/exclaim/features/nf/9705/02txt.htm

"I been redeemed...by the blood of the Lamb..." Oh, the sarcasm! The Pope song is another one of my personal favorites. smiley - winkeye Aw, bloody hell - just go out and buy 'Angel Food For Thought'! Promise? Ok. smiley - winkeye Otherwise, I'll have to send you MP3s by AIM, and you can ask J just how annoying that is. smiley - winkeye

Thanks for the Maria Sangiolo lyrics! I always love finding new music. The problem with getting people to listen to alot of this stuff is that immediately tag it as "Angst-Ridden-Chick-Crap" (I think I saw a section for that once in a Sam Goody or something...), but the simple fact is that women like Meryn and Laurie Anderson and others like them are a HUGE step beyond the a-typical "Lilith Fair" stuff everyone seems to like these days. They have more humor. And maturity. Not to mention a healthy dollup of all over good-sense. smiley - smiley

Oh! And I made a page with the "Sweater" lyrics on it...here:http://www.h2g2.com/P209567smiley - smiley

*sniff* I love you both!

Sadly, Angel Food for Thought was one of my cd's stolen from the Metro. I used to drive down the highway singing:

We all here to see the pope pope pope pope pope
Welllll, you got your pope pennant button, your pope clothes, you got your pope binoculars to see him up close,
And i smiled, and i cried, for that man in white, i cried so much to my surrounder's delight,
I cried because people were steppin' on my feet,
Hey mister holy man way over there, maybe we love you but we're sadly lacking air.

*raises a glass to a beautiful cd*
