Well, after all this time here I have finally done something unusual (for me)- though I must admit that doing something unusual is not unusual for me
Today I volunteered to become an ACE - unusual for me because I am not a "joiner". Previous experience in life has taught me that if you take a step forwards to volunteer you become a much easier target. Yes, I know it sounds cynical but ... there it goes. Anyway I feel much better about it here because, by and large, the majority of people here are friendly, polite, intelligent and (like me) slightly insane - and the way I figure it is, if you like people you go out of your way to help them and participate.
Anyway - I have been wandering around saying "Hi" to new researchers since I started here - might as well make it "proper".

Thanks for your warm welcome! It's so nice to be greeted by someone who knows the ropes. As a newcomer to H2G2, and a relative newcomer to Cyberspace I now feel as though I have found a sometime mentor. Hope you don't mind! I don't have lots of questions--I'm more of an observer than a commenter; well, that's until I find my feet. Is it possible to find one's feet in space, or does one just continually spin around looking for them? Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. Poetic Jay

you had me a bit confused by posting to that thread - you can always reply to a post just by hitting the reply button at the bottom of the message.
here are a couple of other hints that might help
As you travel round, you will find more and more interesting things.
Do not worry about getting lost, you can always return "home" by clicking on the "My Space" button on each page.
Every conversation you take part in will be listed on your page, these are your "threads". Every time someone posts after you, the thread will be refreshed on your page.
You can then return and reply if you wish.
If you hit the “posted” link it will take you to the last time that you posted in the thread (good for checking what’s happened since then) If you hit the “last reply” it will take you to the last post in the thread.
When you no longer wish to participate in a particular conversation, you can click the "unsubscribe" link just below it, and the thread will be removed from your page. Then click on "my space" to return home.
Let me know if you need any help with anything
