What a bunch of WIMPS!
Fenchurch M. Mercury Started conversation Feb 22, 2000
It's been raining for maybe two days. Not even rain, just the sort of precipitation San Diego likes to *call* rain, to add some variation to life. Two days.
And they put out... a COUNTYWIDE FLOOD WARNING. And make it a big deal. Stay inside! Don't drive! Beware the leapord!
There are people SNOWED IN, or suffering HEAT STROKE, or being cloncked by HAILSTONES, and we get a flood warning, and it's the end of the world!
I... am SO ashamed.

Tell me about it - until a few years ago I'd never been in a place that calls two snowflakes a "blizzard."
How've ya been, Fen?

It's Zed!
The weather. Or the wimps, I should say, affected by the weather. Note : I stayed in traffic THREE HOURS to travel a thirty mile distance. Not because it's always that way, just because people insist on stopping to cry whenever water hits the windshield. I do cry when it rains, mind you, I have my faults - but not at the expense of other's precious time! And I, of course, didn't grow frustrated and honk at everyone as certain other individuals enjoy. I simply, contently, damn - near *happily* flipped to the "easy listening" radio station and sang myself various Celine Dion hits. *sigh* You see, what's happening? You SEE?! Set fire to the RAIN, and STUPID INDIVIDUALS!

You seem to be employing more capital letters than you used to........
"When she looks at me in that tone of voice,
she don't need to make a noise.
I can read her thoughts,
in CAPITAL LETTERS.
I lost it since I met her,
I lost it since I met her."

Hi Fenny , I live in one of the places on earth that regularly gets all the other examples you mentioned , Snow , heat , hail and for good measure -55 F temperatures some days , to plus 118 F on others , tornados , plough winds ( 300 mph in a straight line ) , and lightning storms that we should charge admission to see. Most of this stuff has it's good points , the cold and hail tends to stun the mosquitoes for instance. We don't have any poisonous insects , snakes or much of anything that considers humans to be a dietary item. However even given the glorious diversity we have , some individuals still complain. You'd think people would learn to appreciate the entertainment value . Ps. the last time I stopped because of the rain, it fell through a dust storm and plastered my windshield with an inch of mud , I couldn't see a thing so I figured stopping would be a good idea. ( Ok I wimped out )

It drizzled yesterday.
Well, I'm glad you appreciate such wonderfulness. I'm positive that if when I do move, I'll be forever cold and whiny about the weather. But at least I admit it, and like the weather here.

Oh you never know , cold isn't hard to get used to ( you just have to dress up with a few more layers ) . When you're really working cold can be a great help. It's amazing how much chainsaw work you can do at -30 after stripping off the extra layers, just don't stop moving whatever you do . On the down side , I've pretty much destroyed a motorcycle by riding it 40 miles in sleet at - 5 C , the cooling fins were iced over by the end of the trip and it never really ran properly ever again. One thing I have noticed with prairie and coastal people , esp. those that sail, is they both spend more time looking at the sky. I think I'd miss that more then most other things if I ever moved. Mountains just get in the way of the view .

Yeah, I think I would miss that.... when I move I think I'll be jumping from one coast to a colder other coast, so I should be alright... . Can't see living without huge masses of water nearby. As for chainsaw work, I'm lucky if I can *lift* a chainsaw... . And they say our driving is the worst on Earth (one researcher, I don't remember his U#, actually wrote an article about how awful SD drivers are). I don't think so. I think Tijuana beats us out by at least a few curse words... .

While I haven't been to SD , I have driven through most of California and can't really say I though it was that bad. Puerto Vallarta has had the toughest driving I've hit yet , combination of no apparent rules and old small cobblestone streets and way too many tourists. The traffic in Boston was about the heavyest I've seen , but the drivers were thinking so it moved well. No I think I'll still vote Calgary as the worst overall drivers , esp. as thier is so little reason for problems here , much lighter traffic flows . Most of the delays here are caused by everyone trying to cut each other off. Of course with the cowboy attitude here , maybe the problem is the spurs getting caught in the floor mats .

If you can't get a long little doggie , would a short one do? ( ok, we probably say things every bit as idiosyncratic here to )
