My audition at the Kennedy Center.
I was about 2 hours early (of course) and wandered around the gift shops, not really doing anything except worry!
A girl passed me, "warming up". It was very intimidating, as she was good.
Half an hour early, I thought I may as well go to the stage door, and see if they would let me in.
They did. I got sent up to the top floor, where I had to fill in a form, and was then carefully measured and had my weight and height taken.
Then I got to sit out in the corridor with everyone else. There were a crowd of girls that had
obviously sung in the chorus before, and they were talking loudly and over confidently in a flippant manner.
That was also intimidating.
People of all ages and ranges were filling up the corridor, and auditions were so quick, that as one person came out, they held the door for
the next person to go in. Everyone got the chance to do one piece. When it was my turn, I stepped into a room that seemed the size of a basketball hall.
The piano was at one end of the hall, and the three/four audioners at a table at the other end.
I gave two pieces to the accompanist, and they chose "Steal Me Sweet Thief" from Menotti's opera.
I think I sang quite well, and it was over very quickly. I had waited almost a year to sing that song.
Well, I have not heard anything.
It is lucky I am writing this at work, or there would be any amount of unnecessary verbiage, as I tend to be long winded!
It felt good singing
