I've been trying to get my head around this idea of Faith. As near as I can figure, Faith is the acceptance of a proposition as Truth with an overwhelming absence (i.e. none) of empirical evidence to support that proposition. While I find this definition to be very similar (i.e. identical) to the definition I would offer for the word Delusion, somehow Faith is considered to be a worthy character trait in some circles (i.e. religious communities and US politics). I don't understand this.
Another aspect of this issue I considered today is the question of whence come the propositions that are accepted on Faith. 'Twould seem that they come from
a) old books that are considered to be reliable despite an overwhelming absence of empirical evidence to support that reliability
b) old men who are considered to be reliable despite an overwhelming absence of empirical evidence to support that reliability.
I don't get it.
