Ok, i'm back, and will be back for the forseeable future! However... my computer won't be here for a bit in a few days time while its off having things fixed/upgraded/damaged further, therefore i will not be online. I will let you know when that time will be nearer the time.
Meanwhile i need to get through all the backlog with a not very reliable bbc web service...

Bits of my computer aren't working but at the moment h2g2 (or the whole of dna) may be absent more often than you! Estimates are about 1/4 of accesses fail but some people seem to be hit more than others. I think you are absent for less days or weeks per year than that. I'm cheating at the moment in order to gain reliable access. Though even that will fail on the occasions when the whole of BBCi service is unavailable.

At the moment the site is working without cheating, but when(/if ) it stops working, i will have a go at your cheat method. Not that it worked last time i tried...

That's very odd given that Spelugx and I were seeing exactly the same results. Perhaps you are connected via the NewYork route.

I only tried one route. Maybe the site was more dead than usual. I was getting 404s, not blank screens or BBCi errors.
I haven't seen the site dead since to test it (strange how it only works when you don't want it too... maybe i should make this an on going testing project so the site will continue to work...)
