Hi there blub-blub.
It's a delayed reaction. I've been in a kind of shock. Two weeks ago I saw the original Starry Night painting - the one with the lights round the bay and the couple in the bottom right corner - and I think it's the best xxxxxxx painting I've ever seen in my xxxxxxx life! Got carried away just then. Please excuse my French.

Oh, so you went to MOMA, its a fantastic place, isn't it, what other particular favourites did you have?
I agree, seeing Starry Night is amazing, esp because the texture is so fantastic!

The energy coming out of that painting is almost supernatural and at the same time that lighter piece of sky where he has painted the seven stars (big dipper, plough) alomst sucks you in. No illustration or reproduction can do it justice.
I have actually painted a Van Gogh myself, it's hanging on the wall nearby; they call it the Italian Lady. It's the one where she's sitting on a blue chair with her hands crossed and holding two flowers.
I did it a few years ago when I wanted to learn about composition.
Will get back to you about what other paintings I like a.s.a.p.

blub-blub,
It was in MQ (Vienna) at the Leopold Museum. They had some stuff over from Paris for a couple of months. It's gone back now.
More later.

My other favourite Van Gogh's are (not that I've seen them all) -
The cornfields with the crows,
Cafe´ at night with that yellow light pouring out,
Postman R. portrait,
Doctor G. portrait with herbs etc,
Scene on hospital ward,
Sunflowers (one in Munich - have seen)
Landscapes(fields with blue mountains - one have seen in Vienna) in original white frame,
Boats on beach and many more!
Hope I can get to Holland one day and see the main collection.
I have nearly all his paintings in a 2 vol. book (better than nothing).
I used to have a book of all his letters to Theo but I seem to have lost it.
Are you painter? I did a red sunset over a stormy sea yesterday. I reckon old Vince's spirit had a hand in it.

Hello,
I'm afraid I don't really paint. Artistically, I occasionally dabble in writing, and play some music, but not alot else.
What medium do you paint in?

Acrylic on 300gm paper- you can make lots of mistakes and cover them up! And you don't have all that stink that you have with oils. Restarted about a month ago after a very long break. I'm doing one as we speak! Just going to dab over where the hairs have come out of the cheap brushes. I should have known that the 'special offer' on brushes was too good to be true.

Just finished that one. Phew!
6 down, 14 to go. It's a kind of meditation series I'm working on.
The one I've just done, igni would like, it's a gold and purple cross on a yellow and white background.

almaak - appalled by bad taste Posted Feb 19, 2006
i don't know much about art. but last year i saw the original of this one
http://www.wisdom.weizmann.ac.il/~gannar/Pictures/Some%20pictures%20of%20my%20favourite%20artists/van_gogh_almond.jpg
it was, for lack of a better word (at the moment), impressive. i realised that the photographs of paintings don't give the right impression for a painting at all.

Off to the when I've cleaned my brushes.
