h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I don't know what I'm doing. I honestly can't get anything of substance done. I just mope around and listen to music and think about the sorry state of my country.

About two out of every five thoughts that enter my head are something to the effect of "This is terrible. How did this happen?"

Some minor variations on that theme:
- How have conservatives gotten away with making the Republican party the "moral" party - the "godly" party? Voters here act as if a vote for a Dem sets you up for a bath in brimstone.
- How can people like Bush? I can't stand him. He's smug, annoying, stupid, stubborn . . . but you know this already.
- People think that Bush is a normal guy. If he is (which I doubt - he seems rather subnormal to me), does he deserve to be President? Why is it considered a virtue to lack accomplishments, intelligence, and talent?
- Can we please stop voting straight party tickets already? Please?
- Can we listen to the world, acknowledging that the rest of the world might indeed be right? Could we please at least acknowledge foreign countries' overwhelming support of Kerry, rather than cursing at those meddlesome Europeans?
- I say to a Republican, "Well, what about the war in Iraq?" This Republican says, "I supported that war." I am left speechless.
- Please let there not be a draft.
- I'll shoot my toes off if there's a draft. I'll go to Canada. I'll do something.
- Is this some joke? Why vote for Bush? Is it that important to have a slightly less tiny chance of repealing abortion laws? Is it that important to deny equal rights to gays? Is it that important to risk American lives in futile pursuit of terrorists?
- Republican: "I'll vote for Bush. I'm Anybody-But-Kerry. I can't stand how he flip-flops." Am I hearing this right? Flip-flops? Who cares!? Who cares about flip-flops? Have you seen Bush speak? Have you read the news during his presidency? I'll take flip-flops over Bush any day.
- My vote just doesn't count. Sorry, P. Diddy.
