So on Friday I had a spare hour so I went to the pound shop and had a lucky find - that 9/11 documentary about the firefighters... well about the cameramen who were with the firefighters really but still.
Anyway whilst there I indulged in more Star Trek (search for spock - that leaves the motion picture, wrath of khan, and Insurrection). I also picked up collateral, having heard some pretty good stuff about it as well Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow.
Now when I first saw this I didnt give it much of a chance and was pretty appauld by it, but I decided that for a pound it was worth giving it a second go and so far its proving worth the money spent.
Apart from thatI'm behind on my comission work, and I have a new jacket. A new, green jacket thats bloody fantastic

I have Motion Picture somewhere. Wrath of Khan is the best Star Trek movie. Not only for having Kirsty Ally as a sexy vulcan, it has the best plot, soundtrack and starship fight sequence of any of the TOS movies...Final Frontier is the worst

Final frontier is so not the worst - look at voyage home which is complete nonsence, or generations which is pretty damn bad.
And if its sexy vulcans your after, what about the undiscovered country....
Sky captain was quite.. underwhelming and I dont know why. Its suspensful enough and its a decent film its just.... I wanted more from it I guess.
Right, for tonights recovery viewing I think I shall watch... Shaft. I'm in the mood for Shaft. Ha that sounds dirty.

Voyage home is better than Final Frontier, admittedly Generations is worse, but I tend to count that as a TNG movie.

How is voyage home better then final frontier?? It misses out the two essential elements of original trek - The ship and a fight.
I mean, the 'god' figure is often misconstrued because people think oh hes looking for god and its not. The 'god' being is more of a Q figure. Least hes not a whale....

But it's not as funny. Sure it's more dramatic but it's not as funny and the funnyness of VH makes up for the huge gaping plot holes. FF is just dramatic and bad The humour just isn't there.

Yeh but thats a good thing - I mean, VH does border on farce for a long long time. Especially when Chekov steals nuclear material...

And when he's asking where the 'Nuclear wessels' are I think that's why I like it more than FF. It pokes fun at it's where as I find FF to be too serious and preachy. VH was preachy too, but it did it in a light hearted manner. Admittedly I do like farces, like Wilt and Mel Brookes' films.

Yeh but seriously - for all Kirks total incompetance as a captain (first episode of original series, about a dozen people die under his command).
So sending a russian to get nuclear material was a bit silly...
And being preachy... well star trek was always like that especially the original series that was partly the point. You've got to remember that Trek was (iirc) one of the first shows with a multi-racial cast - now I could quite easily argue that it played a good part in the equal rights movement but I wont. However if you saw that happening and you had the same chance again except this time you had a larger audience, a longer time frame, and unlimited scope, wouldnt you go for something a bit bigger? Hence save the planet and be good to your fellow man crop up.
Thats my excuse anyways
