The net is back!
As for the interview, well, I got the job. as for the job, well, it's a bit of a long story. I didn't actually know what the job was when I went for the interview (I hadn't apply for it) and now I only know the title. Anyways, it's in the civil service (no suprise there), and the hours are handy as I can get a lift each way with PSG's parents . It's not a job I' want to keep all that long, but quite frankly I need the money to learn to drive, as there's no way I'll get an environment related job otherwise.
The decorating of the lounge is now complete and the house is looking pretty good now . Only room left is the bathroom, but that can't be done until PSG's parents get back from holiday.
There is so much backlog, not sure I'll ever get through it, I've still got 300 emails to plough through .
Thanks for putting us in the right category

Pleased you got a job behind you not so great thats it isn't what you want and that the type of work you are looking for is hard to come by unless you do work experience environmental wise first.
I got my driving provisional so looks like we may well be learning together well time wise to some extent anyway.
I bet you are pleased to be back on H2G2 ... I'm happy to help in any small way ... i wish i could live with my bf and live happily ever after like you two. As for backlog you'll get through it.
Hope to see you two soon from opti

Well I'm back from my first day, all went fine . I'm now under orders from PSG to surf h2 and eat jellies whilst he cooks dinner and gets another cup of tea ...
... you're right, things are pretty good . I still don't really know what the job is though
I've had driving lessons before but it was a while ago, the weren't enough driving instructors so by the time I was able to start learning it was only a few weeks until I started uni

That sounds like quite a job. You can hardly do it poorly or wrong, if there's no real "description" yet.

Thats the way to have it women should be waited on by their bf's
I think I remember you saying that you got up to reverse parking.
Personally I feel really confident about learning to drive..... until I get in the car and think I'll bunny hop to Kingdom come upsetting mum in the process... think I'll just have a crash course and an instructor and not bother with parental help.

I know a little more about what I'm doing now . I also know two people now who go the same route so the commute's more interesting.
Not quite as far as reverse parking, only reversing in a straight line . I couldn't get any parental help learning to drive, the car was too big for the insurance to be affordable

Our system must have been so much easier. I learned with anything on wheels that a farmer had, ... bike, truck, tractor ... And when I was 16, wrote a "Rules of the Road" test, passed a sign-recognition test, and walked away with a "learners permit". Months later, a road test of perhaps half an hour driving, parking, etc, ... I've been legal since around '77.

I need to take and pass a reactions test, a theory test and the driving test. It may take some time.

I have had partial discussions with other UK folks, and it does appear your teaching and testing system is MUCH more thorough. One would hope that in the end, you've fairly safe roadways?

you make me laugh one would hope that but I tell you I'll be more worried about what others do than what i am doing

Urgh, no the roadways are not partuicularly safe. The roads are very busy, and there can be a lot of problems when people get impatient. On the way up from Hemel afer that weekend visit we got stuck when one car crashed on the motorway (smashing the crash barrier) and again when the car in front's enguine burst into flames. Elsewhere a lorry carrying hydrogen peroxide exploded melting the tarmac.

I guess that's another advantage to having soooooo much space. Though when a pile-up happens on our Trans-Canada highway, near a large city ... The carnage and lives lost is horrendous.

Well we were travelling on a bank holiday, never a good idea . Roads round here can be bad because of queues for the huge metro centre and getting over the river Tyne

No, and the comedy festival has been cancelled. The council said they wanted to focus this year's budget on festivals instead. Oh the irony.
Getting error 500 messages most the time now, may be time to log off . Trouble is I have to get up at 5.30am in order to get to work on time
