January is almost over.
Polly and Pixie Started conversation Jan 20, 2007
The wind has died down, and the rain has stopped. But it is much more chilly outside. Here, in my little home, I am cosy and wrapped up. My darling puss is beside me, and soon we shall go to bed!!
January is almost over.

Not yet it isn't! Weather going to get much colder next week - but you like the cold weather don't you?

Hi Andy. Everyone seems to be either watching Big Brother or asleep.
Yes I have always loved the autumn and winter. It wasn't always so good indoors before I had the CH put in! It was awfully cold here. But now I can enjoy the CH whilst having an open fire just for effect!
I've been listening to Classic FM all evening. There has been some really lovely music.
I read once that summer is for young women, and winter is for mature women. It was with reference to clothing. I think it is absolutely right. Young girls can get away with wearing next to nothing in the summer. But we more mature females look great in winter coats, hats, long skirts etc. I am sure that you will disagree.

Classic FM - yuk!! (Sorry)
Been to a string quartet concert tonight, Mozart Dissonance,Hindemith no 5, John Tavener and Schubert's last, played by the Dante Quartet, very good.
I don't have CH btw

The concert sounds lovely. I know Classic FM is rather awful, but sometimes I just enjoy some pretty music. And the evening concerts are usually good.Otherwise, all week I have listened to Radio4(and very little R3). I have a concert coming up in a couple of weeks time at Poole. I hardly dare book any more just in case I move(it will be too far to go to the Arts centre).

I know Classic FM is a bit better in the evening, don't expect you wanted to listen to whatever opera was on R3. There was a BSO concert on R3 Friday was it? did you go to that one?

If it was the Shostakovich 10, then that was in Poole on Wednesday. I would love to have gone but left it too late. I didn't hear it on the radio.

No, it was:
Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man
Joan Tower: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman No 1
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No 5 (Emperor)
Rachmaninov: Symphony No 2

Oh! Well I didn't go to that one either!! Nor would I have done so. I don't like Copeland. My concert is on the 19th I think.

Re your posts about talking to orchestra members: the main reason why I help with the concerts is that I get to chat to the musicians and composers, hear them rehearsing etc, makes it all seem so much more interesting somehow.

>>My concert is on the 19th I think.
That was yesterday!!
Would you not go to a concert just because you didn't like the first piece? I don't expect to like every piece in a concert, some you have to endure.

Ha ha. I meant February!!
Yes of course I would go to a concert even if I didn't like the programme. But I really don't like Copeland. Most of the concerts that I attend have pieces that I have never heard before. I think that the most interesting concert that I went to, and one that I knew little of the programme, included John Adams's violin concerto. The soloist was Leila Josefovich. It was so incredible. I know that if I had heard it on the radio I would have turned it off. But it was amazing to watch it being played. Miss Josefovich looked stunning, and was brilliant. It made for a great concert.

I'm away to make a drink before nesting. It sounds very windy again outside. Goodnight and sweet dreams.

'Morning MJ. I've been listening to Rob Cowan on 3. Brilliant selection of music.
It's rather cold today, isn't it.
I couldn't think, last night(or ever these days!) what concert I was going to next month. I had to get the programme out! It is an all Mozart concert. Goodness knows why I chose it as there have been some super concerts recently eg the Shostakovich one last week.

Morning Oplly - oo that's a nice new variation!
Bit of sleet here but no snow yet. Haven't listened to the radio this morning which is unusual. Bother! What have I missed that I'd've liked? Watching a very abandoned watering-hole - you're not missing anything!

NobleJane,
The Wagner was beautiful this morning.
I haven't listened! to the watering hole today. It always sounds very busy there!!

Just gazelle (or are they impala?) and a couple of wildebeast but still waiting for lions to liven things up. Actually that's a horrible thing to wish for when these herds of dainty deer are so happily grazing.
What Wagner? Turned on earlier and it was yukky jazzed up Bach. Switched off immediately!
See you later - we've completely run out of cat food so I must get some before they start finding their own live altenative in the garden.

Um-The Meistersingers??? I haven't a clue how to spell it though!!!
I too must get Wookie's food tomorrow from the vet. There is enough for 2 more days and then starvation!
January is almost over.
MabelJane Posted Jan 21, 2007
Our cats can't have been that starving as there was an uneaten mouse in the utility room next to an empty food bowl!
