Three quotes I've heard in the last week that have caught my fancy-

(On the occasion of my daughter contemplating life).
"I've heard that if you live only in the present you will live forever."

(On parenthood).
"Over protective parents raise the best liars."

(Talking about an old piece of taxidermy.)
"Smells like a Sumo wrestler took a dump on a burning tire."

They're good. Particularly the one about parenting.

Curious thing how you raise your opposite. Hugely successful people, materially, competitively, or artistically, are often the children of keen but mediocre dabblers. We could call it the Capablanca effect.

The quote about living forever is from Wittgenstein. He said "If by eternity is understood not endless temporal duration but timelessness, then he lives eternally who lives in the present." (Tractatus, 6.4311)
