To summarise: Belgium have denied the Dalai Lama a visa to attend the meeting of the Tibet Support Group being held in their country. They have done this under pressure from the corrupt, oppressive and genocidal government that illegally invaded and still occupy Tibet - namely China. It bewilders me that an liberal, democratic EU country would deny a Peace Nobel Laureate entry, just to safeguard their economic interests. The Belgian Government are cowards. The danger is that other governments will use this as a precedent to knuckle under to Chinese demands. It is pretty certain that Chian will see it as a licence to oppress its opponents overseas. Chai also has links to protest letters to send to key members of the Belgian Government. I have sent them also to our Foreign Secretary, and my MP (Lembit Opik).
