The Independent are running a competition with United Artists for people to submit 2-minute films (inspired by various UA titles). The prizes are a 3-day film-making course in London, a trip to Hollywood and a private screening in Soho. I want the 2nd prize, obviously.

Would anyone like to help brainstorm with me? smiley - grovel

I think a Kes/WarGames crossover would be ideal. You know, a working class raptor of some sort hacks into govenment defense computer. Magic.

Failing that The Magnificent Seven is easy. Could be anything. Shelf stackers, window cleaners, Reiki healers, the list is endless.

I always thought this fake Titanic sequel preview was hilarious and excellent:

Can you do something similar with Universal films -- editing bits and pieces together to create something new?

smiley - laugh That is brilliant! I recognise loads from there, Catch Me If You Can, Basketball Diaries, Romeo & Juliet... really well put together. I'd love to do something like that but I haven't the skills.

Well, it takes skill, but even more it takes time, tons and tons of time to comb through the source material and find the right shot. It's too bad I don't have any way to capture dvd clips on my computer, or I'd have a go at it. But then also, I noticed the contest is only open to UK residents.

You can get DVD bits with this, and it's freeware - you'll probably need the codec too. smiley - smiley

Shamefully I don't own a single one of those UA films listed. And I've wanted the Dollars trilogy for ages.

I own Man in the Iron Mask, and Mad, Mad, Mad World. What a strange combination those two would make! The Mad Man in the Mask!

Unless I get a better idea I'm going with "Spitoon" - in which a Nam soldier is mortally wounded by richocheting gum, and falls wailing to the floor, in slow-motion, to Adagio for Strings. that'll help pad out 2 minutes a bit. smiley - erm
