But also attic fanatic. When we bought the house, we could afford to get the core done, but the top and bottom of the house had to wait.

So far total time invested after the kids go to bed and occasionally at weekends =

Twenty hours of demolition and disposal in the attic (amusingish but very dusty - about another twenty to go).

And about thirty hours of demolition and disposal in the cellar, followed by about fifteen hours of cleaning and tidying so far.

To be followed by about the same again of that kind of work, followed about forty hours of painting?

It's the getting dirty every evening that bugs me more than anything. Saves a lot of money though, and there is some satisfaction in seeing the work done - I'll have to put a chair in the cellar to admire it properly.

At least it's the right time of year so you're not wasting daylight (in the evenings, at least).

Hello vip and Websailor.

Indeed, the next time I lack motivation to go back in the cellar, I shall imagine how irritating it would be to have to do it in the summer when the weather is nice... (Although the cellar is lovely and cool on the two or three very hot days we get...)
