as a kid, every summer holiday, which always seemed to go on forever,my
family always went to my gran's house.i loved going there, she and my granpa lived at
Sherborne in Dorset.i loved the journey there as once we had got through the main towns
it was all countryside.i loved all the open fields, the air seemed fresher and cleaner
and there were flowers growing wild in the
hedgerows that i had never seen before.the countryside was so beautiful to me..like another world.
my gran lived in a really beautiful house,it was built in the 1600's.
of course the interior had been altered slightly, but the main structure of the
house was still the same.the house had a basement which was still the same as when the house
was built..it still had the celler where
the coal used to be delivered for the huge fires
that were in every room.
us kids used to sleep in the very top of the house..in the attic.this is where i saw my first ghost.
strangely enough i wasn't frightened.
the night that i saw the ghost i awoke feeling
really cold..and there at the foot of the bed
was a figure cloaked in black.i couldn't see
anything except a black cloak and a hat that had a
feather sticking out of it.anyway as i said,i wasn't
frightened,i just got out of bed,but just as i did so
the ghost disappeared.
at breakfast the next morning i told my gran what i had seen
and she smiled knowingly as if she knew what i meant.
she then explained that in the 1700's
Oliver Cromwell and his men had stayed there
as they were tired after thier journey.
also, there were other ghosts that appearred during
the day...unfortunatly my gran died a few
years ago now also my granpa...so i havn't
visited the house for many years.i wonder though
if the new occupants have seen any of the ghosts??
