Here's an interesting study: The Correlation Between sleep deprivation and academic performance. It might be worth investigating. Check out [URL removed by moderator] for more info. Also, I'd like to start a movement called Save the Teens and Start High School Later (in the day). Any volunteers?
Most people are willing to admit that we need to go to sleep later at night and wake up later in the day in order to be well rested. Why not facilitate this need, instead of making us suffer? I know I'd be happy with 1 more hour. Just one. Well, maybe 2. But that's all...
