transcribing old english by hand is painful, you know?
i photocopied my manuscript of The Order of the World finally today, and am swimming through the first step of creating what is known as a 'diplomatic transcription.' i go through and write it out by hand, it's a way of forming a bond with the text, a good relationship as it were, so that in the future it will submit more readily to my attempts to examine it. it's also a good way to ease me into the editing process. i will have to transcribe it, translate it and create a glossary. it's a lot of work. and this is all to be done by december 2nd. so far i've copied down the first page, and it's made my wrist rather sore. my writing muscles must be out of shape.
