At the moment we're not moving but are hopefully lined up for somewhere better. For this place we need references from previous landlords, which is fair enough. So we check with previous landlords to make sure everything's okay, when I find out that I owe one of them some rent (not much so I paid it straight away) and £300 of council tax! Now, I moved out of said property under three years ago and had no idea this was still outstanding - they didn't try all that hard to find me either

It's just as well I phoned up to make sure everything was okay - it wasn't, but hopefully it is now *crosses fingers*

I am sure they go it solely so they can screw up moving further down the line!

Well the good news is that we do indeed have a brand new house to move into

The not so good news is that the builders haven't done their job properly (like put on skirting boards and stupid stuff like that) so we still haven't moved yet...

At least you won't have to decorate it. :D

New houses tend to come in just bare plaster board though.

They are normally painted I thought? Because you can't stick wallpaper to them for a year, so they paint them for you. Or so I heard.

Please note. I am not a painter & decorator.

Every new house I've ever seen is painted with pretty-basic undercoat/emulsion in our favourate colour of bordom but basically leaving it ready to be painted on in a more reasonable nicer looking way, I guess they only give it one or two coats anyhow on the bare plaster... The tendancy nowdays also with things like internal doors is for them to use ready painted ones I think, so they'l likely be done in white gloss Though I guess it depends a lot on who's building the house and for whom they're building it One day I want to employ a local builder, a firm called 'badger builders', and ask them to do out the interiour of the house... in badger-stripes

Ah well there you go. Obviously the last time I moved into a new house built commenrcially was too long ago.

The walls will be magnolia but the doors will be nice new ones that won't be painted white. We've moved forward in Scotland y'see, nobody paints their doors white now We're not allowed to decorate for a year anyway so if there are any problems like cracks, etc it's easier for them to be spotted. I can put up with magnolia for a year; I'll just put loads of pictures of Jennifer on the walls

Isn't putting pictures on the walls a type of decorating?.

The trouble is that in a year you'll be fully furnished and carpeted and then decorating will be a huge effort and you just won't bother.

Or is that just me.

I'm hoping you'll be in by August, when I'm visiting, whether you like it or not.

Well, they told me today that we get our keys next Friday. I'm not getting all excited just yet, just in case...
