Zarquon's Singing Fish!

I've now had my top brace put on. It was nowhere near as traumatic as the bottom brace. None of the soreness or irritation to tongue and inside of the lip. It does make it a bit difficult to smile properly or (especially) to laugh. The brace catches and gets in the way. Still, it will be worth it in a couple of years time when I have a Hollywood smile.smiley - diva The bottom teeth are already straight - it only needs the gap closing and it will be fine!

Still a bit difficult to eat. I can't bite properly and can still only chew on one side. Still, it's getting a bit easier now.

Just be thankful that you're not being fitted for a "scold's bridle" as in Emmily's very interesting entry

I do hope you won't experience much discomfort for as long as this brace contraption will be necessary smiley - cheerup

Soon you will have such a bright smile that we will all need sunglasses just to witness the spectacle! smiley - magic

Hi, 2legs, old friend! How are you?

Lots of people I've seen since I've been wearing the brace were unaware that they could be fitted to adult teeth. I thought until fairly recently that they were only for children or teenagers. I may be setting a trend. It's actually not that bad. My own dentist said that when the teeth are straight, it should help with cleaning and said that some of the fillings I have were probably due to the difficulty in cleaning them when they were crooked. If you decide to have your teeth straightened and fixed, your dentist should be able to refer you to an orthodontist - and it shouldn't be that painful. You may need a bit of help cleaning them, though. I have a special brush to clean in between the brace wire and the teeth - food tends to get trapped between the wires. Mind you, I'm sure I could do it by feel if push came to shove.

Hi, AV!

Just had a look at Emmily's entry A13474677 - scold's bridles - isn't it interesting how men used to be - and in some parts of the world, still are - afraid of women.

Ow - I'm having a few problems with an old scar in my mouth - on the inside of the lip, where I got bashed during a rounders match when I was at junior school. The bottom brace is catching it and it's quite sore at the moment! OW!!
